The Commonwealth Fashion Council has invited a selection of Commonwealth nations to participate in the Made in the Commonwealth Reception on February 20, 2018 by choosing a local designer to showcase a fashion item representative of the country’s culture.
Six fashion designers and manufacturers from across the Commonwealth Fashion Industries will showcase their products to 120 guests, diplomats and retailers attending the reception at the New Zealand High Commission in London.
The Fashion Council initiative will bring exposure to the showcased culture and the individual designer.
The submitted product, either a garment, accessory or printed fabric, must be easily translatable to a commercial item or have elements identifiable as commercial fashion, as well as being a unique and contemporary representation of a country’s culture.
Concepts must be submitted to national Fashion Councils by January 12, 2018 as the selected product needs to be shipped to London before January 30, 2017.
The reception leads up to the Commonwealth Summit taking place in London on April 16, 2018, which aims to bring together Commonwealth Heads of Government to discuss the challenges facing member nations and buoy international cooperation.
Daniel Hutton, Director and Founder of the Commonwealth Fashion Council, said: “It’s fundamental that we bring all areas of the Commonwealth together because that[‘s what] makes our Commonwealth different and unique – our diversity.
“And, we must, within all our programmes, represent the full geographical span of our Commonwealth family.”
