The Commonwealth is a global network of 54 countries and 2.4 billion people working together to promote prosperity, democracy and peace.
Often called a ‘family of nations’, the Commonwealth spans every geographical region, religion and culture and accounts for over 20 per cent of global trade and one-third of the world’s population.
As such, the modern Commonwealth forms one of the largest areas of commercial opportunity and investment, and one of the biggest challenges for sustainable development in the world.
Education is a cornerstone of development and growth and a fundamental human right.
However, the COVID-19 pandemic has created the largest education crisis in history, negatively affecting 1.6 billion learners. School closures have exposed and widened pre-existing education inequalities, and already stretched education budgets have been further strained.
The Commonwealth Education Report 2021 features a series of articles from some of the world’s leading education commentators including Stefania Giannini, Gordon Brown, Julia Gillard, Asha Kanwar, Rosy Akbar, President Sahle-Work Zewde, Sarah Anyang Agbor and Henrietta Fore.
We hope that their collective wisdom will help Commonwealth nations in their efforts to recover and achieve inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all – and to stand united in this mission.
