The Commonwealth is a global network of 54 countries and 2.4 billion people working together to promote prosperity, democracy, and peace. Often called a ‘family of nations’, the Commonwealth spans every geographical region, religion and culture and accounts for over 20 per cent of global trade and one-third of the world’s population. As such, the modern Commonwealth forms one of the largest areas of commercial opportunity and investment, and one of the biggest challenges for sustainable development in the world.
Against this backdrop, Commonwealth Business Communications publishes a series of reference books to help foster sustainable economic, social, and environmental development across the Commonwealth. We are delighted to bring to you our latest publication: The Commonwealth Health Report 2022.
It is inevitable that SARS-CoV-2 will frame the content of this publication. Nevertheless, the pressing health issues for the Commonwealth, present at the end of 2019 when reports of a novel and deadly coronavirus first became known, remain in place today. If anything, the urgency to address them is ever greater. Therefore, the aim of the Commonwealth Health Report 2022 is to continue to highlight best practice and effective health strategies, necessarily through the lens of COVID-19, but all the more importantly for that.
This report, to be published in print and online, features a series of articles from some of the world’s leading health experts and commentators, including Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Dr Matshidiso Moeti, Dr Carissa Etienne, Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh, Victoria Rutter, Francesca Colombo, and Katie Dain.
We hope that their collective wisdom will help Commonwealth nations in their efforts to recover and to ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all at all ages – and to stand united in this mission.
