The Cooperative Republic of Guyana celebrates Independence Day on 26th May every year.
The holiday commemorates the anniversary of Guyana’s independence from the United Kingdom on the same day in 1966, after being ruled by the British for 152 years.
Although the British were the last set of Europeans to govern Guyana, the country’s culture is a mix of the diverse ethnic groups that came to Guyana.
As a result, the celebration of Independence Day reflects a rich history and dynamic culture.
