I am pleased to welcome and introduce you to The University of Goroka, in Eastern Highlands Province, Papua New Guinea. As one of PNG’s oldest teacher training institution, UOG has a 50-year tradition of excellence in teaching, learning and research, from its transition from a teachers college to a fully-fledged university. UOG offers a conducive learning environment where you will enjoy a perfect mixing of high educational standards, pristine mountain air and scenery from the Humilaveka hills, and an outstanding collegiate lifestyle. We have strong partnership with many overseas institutions to facilitate for excellence in learning and research. The University of Goroka has recently had a change in the Top Management Team and the Council. The management is carrying out an academic audit to review all the programs to meet international standards as part of the university’s planned restructure. Under the new Management and the direction of the Council, there will be more highly skilled academics and professionals recruited to facilitate and bring into effect, this restructure. This is to ensure that Teachers produced by the University will have excellent academic content, to be able to teach at secondary schools here and abroad. The University of Goroka, formally the Goroka Teachers College, became a fully-fledged university on March 25, 1997 after breaking away from the University of Papua New Guinea as a campus. As we reach the eve of celebrating 20-years of our university status, UOG will continue to strive to be the best institution in the country and the Pacific, playing a significant role towards human capital development in terms of teacher education and training of other professionals. To fulfill the PNG Government’s dream of Happier, Healthier and a Wiser PNG by 2050, UOG prides itself in its core values in alignment with the PNG Vision 2050. The University of Goroka in its vision, mission and core values will persist to accommodate, integrate and align with Vision 2050, and medium term Development plans, in pursuing the enlisted seven key internal pillars of the University; 1. Teaching and Learning With consistent collaboration, partnership and collegiality in keeping up with the objects of excellence in teaching and learning, moving towards global competitiveness in providing University level training and skills, and Research in to Natural Products and Resources of which PNG will have a global competitive advantage, The University of Goroka aims to be a key player in PNG’s National Development and contribute to other developmental efforts beyond these shores.
