The Department of Sustainable Development in Saint Lucia is hosting a private sector consultation today
The Department of Sustainable Development, is collaborating with the Coalition of Civil Society Organizations of Saint Lucia and the Saint Lucia National Trust, to host a private sector consultation today.
The consultation is aimed at sensitising the private sector on the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development: “Transforming our World.” The gathering also seeks to prioritize the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
The SDGs focus on many issues that have been affecting Saint Lucia including inequality, environmental degradation, and poverty. By signing on to Agenda 2030 in September 2015, Saint Lucia committed to investing in its people, protecting the planet, increasing prosperity for its people, ensuring that there is a peaceful and safe environment for all, while working together and developing partnerships to guarantee the successful promotion of sustainable development.
The consultation is a critical stage in Saint Lucia’s effort to promote sustainable development and to determine the priority areas for the national development plan.
The event is focussing on the private sector’s priorities given that, so far, priority areas have been identified for civil society organizations. Additionally, the consultation will assist in the continued efforts to develop a national SDG roadmap, charting the way forward for Saint Lucia to efficiently implement the SDG targets by the year 2030.
Hon. Dr. Gale Rigobert, Minister for Sustainable Development, said: “It is imperative to ensure that we maintain a people-centred approach in all that we do. It is especially important to involve the private sector as a critical player in the pursuit of national development.”
