The Commonwealth of Learning (COL) has partnered with the Open University of Mauritius to develop a course on Business for Sustainable Development that will assist business leaders to adopt sustainable practices.
A blueprint of the course and methods to integrate open educational resources, such as online forums, were discussed at a two-day workshop on November 13-14, 2017, hosted by Education Specialist Dr Sanjaya Mishra of COL’s eLearning division.
The course has been created in recognition of the importance of global cooperation in achieving the goals set in the Paris Agreement for Sustainable Development.
The Commonwealth of Learning focuses on creating opportunities for open and innovative schooling within the Commonwealth, including vocational skills development and technology-enabled learning.
The Open University of Mauritius is a public university offering undergraduate and postgraduate courses to over 4000 students through flexible, open distance learning methods.
Dr Romeela Mohee, Education Specialist for Higher Education at COL who is responsible for the Canadian Executive Master of Business Administration programme, said of the course: “[It] is being developed to address the growing needs of the stakeholders to respond to the sustainability challenges of the world and in particular the SDG 12 on sustainable production and consumption.
“The learners in this course will not only understand the inter-linkages of the sustainable development goals, but will also develop competencies to apply sustainable practices in different sectors of business and industry.”
